How AI is Changing the Creative Industry
Artificial intelligence is changing how creatives work by improving efficiency, quality, and results while keeping the human touch. By 2026, AI is everywhere, so using it wisely is key. Test tools, enhance your work, and find ways to stand out. When used well, AI empowers creatives and drives innovation.
Artificial intelligence is one of the fastest growing tools in the creative industry. In many cases it is often under, or overutilized. AI’s primary purpose in the creative industry is to increase efficiency, quality, and results. Too often it can be used to replace a creative professional, or not used all together. AI is not a tool meant to replace creatives, but to enhance them. Being that we’re in the year 2026 and AI is being utilized by almost every competitor, it also cannot simply be rejected.
So, the use and implementation of artificial intelligence within creative work demands discernment. Just as each technology of the past brings new successes and challenges, so does AI. When cameras advanced to a consumer level, more and more companies and individuals could afford them, beginning to produce their own content and widening the depth of online media. AI has brought the same kind of revolution to the creative industry. It has made planning, production, and implementation more accessible to a wider audience. It also has changed the general sentiment towards creative professionals as to being on a track to replacement by the consumer themselves.
Every part of the creative industry is being influenced by artificial intelligence. Working primarily in videography and photography, I see these changes every day when editing videos, adjusting lighting in photos, and the use of AI powered tools continues to enhance the creative process in my work.
The utilization of AI best comes when done in three phases.
- Critical Examination
First comes critical examination of artificial intelligence, and AI-powered tools. What do these tools claim to offer? What are their real-world results when tested? Does this software or tool increase efficiency and quality of our work? Not every claim of AI holds up when used in real-world scenarios. For instance, many uses of Photoshop’s “Generative AI” come far short of the desired or advertised outcome. How these tools hold up when put to the test is an important step in developing and utilizing AI.
- Localized Implementation
Here, AI is not used to replace work altogether, but through localized implementation it enhances it. For example, the use of AI-powered “noise-reduction” within a video or photo software saves time by removing the need for manual noise-reduction, and increases quality by producing a better outcome than manual noise-reduction. This is a successful use-case of AI within the creative sector.
- Competitor Separation
The side-effect of the availability of AI-powered tools means your competitors also have access to them. If you are able to utilize AI effectively, so can your competitors. Therefore, you need to develop a way to set your work apart from them. Sometimes this is as little and unseen as internal processes. These internal guidelines can be assisted by AI tools to constantly hone and increase operations efficiency. Other times, this competitor separation comes from the creative manpower of your organization that works hand-and-hand with the efficiency increase of AI-tools. Whatever it will be, as systems improve so must your separation from competitors.
With proper implementation of artificial intelligence, the creative industry will be enhanced, not replaced. Creative professionals can increase their skill with the assistance of AI, and bring new innovations to the creative sector.
